Configuring Home Directory Options
The Home Directory tab enables you to specify the file system location of the FTP site’s root directory. (See Figure 9.)
The default option, A Directory Located On This Computer, enables you
to enter the path to a local folder. You can also choose whether you
want to allow read, write, or read and write permissions and whether
visits to this folder should be logged. The Directory Listing Style
affects the format of file lists that are returned to the FTP client.
It
is also possible to use a home directory located on another computer. A
common reason for enabling this option is to enable multiple FTP
servers to provide access to the same content. When you select A
Directory Located On Another Computer, you can provide a Universal
Naming Convention (UNC) network path to the content (for example,
\\Server1\FTPData\). The Connect As button enables you to specify the
username and password credentials to be used to access the content.
(See Figure 10.)
The default option is to use the authenticated user’s credentials to
validate access to the data. You can also designate a dedicated account
for testing and validating permissions regardless of the user’s
credentials.
Managing Directory Security Settings
You
can restrict access to an FTP site based on IPv4 address information.
These settings are available on the Directory Security tab. (See Figure 11.)
By default, all computers will be able to access the site. You can
change the setting by adding new entries for specific computers or
groups of computers and by changing the default setting to either
Granted Access or Denied Access.
